Be mindful of your lifestyle
Having a healthy body and mind is also influenced by your lifestyle. Physical activity and exercise are fun and help to balance out the overstimulation caused by information overload, work-related stress and a faster pace of life. Relaxation is vital, too: focused breathing exercises and brief periods of relaxation in your day-to-day life can have a positive effect on your body and mind. A healthy lifestyle also includes getting enough sleep, eating a balanced diet and only consuming alcohol and other addictive substances in moderation.
What’s your situation?
- Do you have enough time for physical activity in your daily routine?
- What's your favourite way to exercise? Swimming, hiking, running, dancing, yoga, gymnastics, cycling etc.?
- Have you already done 30 continuous minutes of exercise today?
- Which activities help you to mentally switch off?
- Does your daily schedule leave you with enough time to unwind?
- Which activities – such as writing, running or crafts – motivate and energize you?
A few ideas:
- Get off the tram one stop earlier, and use the stairs instead of the lift.
- Go for a stroll or take the neighbour's dog for a walk.
- Meet friends for a game of football or boules.
- Dance to your favourite music in your living room until you're out of breath.
- At work, get up and move around at least once an hour. Take phone calls standing up.
- Do whatever you enjoy doing, and do it regularly – ideally for 30 minutes, three times a week.
- In the morning, make time to listen to the birds singing.
- Imagine you are sitting in your favourite place.
- Make time to do breathing and relaxation exercises, perhaps first thing in the morning.
- Try out relaxation techniques – such as autogenic training, yoga, meditation or qigong – and build them into your daily routine.
- Plan a weekend boat tour, a trip up into the mountains, or an afternoon spent reading in a sun lounger or on the sofa.
